Cycle Oregon (www.cycleoregon.org) begins in a very short amount of time, and I've not ridden nearly enough this summer. Just too much going on, and I'm going to SUFFER MIGHTILY for my lack of training. My great hope was to lose 20 pounds, too. NOT. Actually I probably would have dropped most of that weight if I'd RIDDEN MY BIKE this summer.
So in a pitiful last -minute attempt to get it together, I assembled my Bike Friday (http://www.bikefriday.com/) and rode 23 miles yesterday - and I felt pretty bad afterward. I'd gone out on only a cup of black coffee, it was pretty warm out, and I bonked (this is a condition when the athlete suddenly loses energy and fatigue sets in, usually caused when glycogen stores in the liver and muscles are depleted, resulting in a major performance drop). I rode 23 miles again today, and felt much better having eaten something and taken extra water.
We'll be leaving next week for Sisters, where Cycle Oregon begins this year.
Tomorrow I'll spend all day at the Oregon State Fair with dollmaker Patti LaValley (demonstrating cloth dollmaking). Friday I'm going to hike Saddle Mountain with friends. Then I work Saturday, Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday - and my plan is to ride at least my 23 mile loop if not more.
